How do I check my browser setup before launching e-learning courses in the LMS?

Here is an overview of recommended system and browser settings that help to ensure effective launch of e-learning and the LMS in general...

Browser Support:

  • FireFox – Version 3 and above (please note that Version 8 is currently undergoing testing).
  • Chrome – Up to version 15 (which is the current ‘stabilized’ release)
  • Internet Explorer – Version 6.0 thru IE8
  • Safari – Available, but not fully supported at this time

Additional Settings and Support:

Browser Settings

  • Cookies – Be sure to have cookies enabled in your browser security settings
  • Javascript – Should be enabled with your browser settings. 
  • Pop-Up Blockers – Disabled

Supporting Software/Plug-Ins

  • Java – Java version 21 or above is preferred
  • Adobe Flash Player (with 9.0 or greater preferred)
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (with 5.0 or greater preferred)

General System Settings

  • Connection Speed – 128kbps – 550 kbps required
  • Pentium III or better
  • RAM – 128MB or greater available
  • Hard Drive – 2MB or greater available 
  • Resolution – 1024x768 minimum

Additionally, you can assess performance of your connectivity to the internet, including detailed download and upload speeds from your local machine at http://www.speedtest.net/.

Finally, you can test setup in preparation for accessing third-party content using one our content partner tools:

  • browser.skillport.com to test your browser's conformance, and
  • support.skillsoft.com/customer/SPJava/internet_explorer.htm to help optimize browser setup.
