Latitude is dedicated to gaining valuable insight about the training industry and sharing our findings with the learning community. We are currently in the midst of gathering information and analyzing results for our 2020 Annual Training Survey.
Survey participants range from a variety of industries, all with knowledge about their organization's training program's objective. Make sure your training program is represented - participate in future questionnaires & surveys.
Results are in: Who does your training program train?
What it means?
In 2018 over half of participants surveyed expressed that they train employees within their organization - at 58%. In 2020 that number dropped slightly to 50%. Although this doesn't indicate a significant drop, the trend down could very well mean the training industry is starting to train more people outside of their "four walls".
The increase in customer training from 18% in 2018 to 30% in 2020 suggest the industry is seeing value in training those that use their products. Training customers to use your product(s) will increase customer usage, customer retention and customer satisfaction.
There wasn't much change from 2018 to 2020 in the percentage of partners, or trainees that are neither employees, customers or partners, that are being trained. With these numbers holding fairly steady, it's a fair assumption that companies which have already extended training beyond the career development of the staff to include people in their business ecosystem (i.e. the extended enterprise) are seeing benefits from the training and have no plans to retract.
As a whole, we are seeing a shift in the training industry. In 2018, 41% survey participants expressed they are training people outside of their organization. In 2020, that number jumped to 50%. The majority of organizations are no longer only focusing on employee career development.
