Track and Manage Goals

Create individualized training plans by assigning learners certification or course "Goals”. There are several ways to establish a learner’s training goals, via automated Goal Rules or the manual Assign Goals process. This document explains how LMS managers and students track training goal status.

Goals Page

LMS managers will find a Goals link on their Employees or My Team pages where they can access and manage their employees' training goals. Summary graphics, goal details, and action buttons provide a simple way to manage goal assignments and track progress at a glance.

Summary Graphics

There are two charts that summarize the employee goal records, one by Status and the other by Assignment Due Date. Number totals display inside of each graph, while hover text provides percentage details.

Goals – Chart displays all goals by status: Achieved, Assigned, Waived
Assigned – Chart shows number of assigned goals by Due Date: No Due Date, More than 30 Days, Less than 30 Days, Past Due

Click Filter > to apply criteria that refine the list of goals and Apply Filter to execute those criteria.



Manage Goals

Training Goals are displayed with User, Due Date, and Status information.  Watch the to-do list move from Assigned to Achieved as your employees complete their certification and course goals. 

  • Click the Status icon to expand record details, or click column headers to sort the list in a different way.
  • Open the Edit Goal  form to view details and make changes.
  • Click Delete  to permanently delete training goals. 
  • Use Waive  to exempt a user from completing their goal assignment.

Click +Goals to open the Assign Goals page. 



Goal Status: Waived

Some LMS clients want to provide managers a way to "waive" an assigned training goal, as managers and their employees sometimes need flexibility in creating a professional development plan. This action is most commonly used to exempt a user from training requirements assigned by Goal Rules, in an effort to create a more individualized program.

The system allows administrators to audit waived goals in the Summary Graphic and Goal Details view.  

My Goals

Students with access to the Navigation page My Goals icon will notice a goal assignment counter. Click this icon to open the My Goals page and discover the same functionality provided to end users interested in tracking their own training goals. 

All certification and course goals that have been assigned to, waived, or achieved by the logged-in user are listed on My Goals. Note that students are not allowed to edit goals assigned by rule or by their manager. 

If Self Assign Goals is enabled on the LMS Information page, students will see +Goals displayed in upper right corner. Only users who assigned themselves a training goal will see action options listed. Although they may see the Delete All  icon in the results header, the LMS will only allow them to delete self-assigned goals.



THE LEGACY EXPERIENCE

Depending on a user’s profile assignments in the LMS, he or she will have different capabilities related to Certification and Curriculum goals. The table below shows, at a high level, what each type of user can expect. The “Portal Administrator” and “Student” roles listed correspond with the same roles in the LMS. Manager views could vary depending on their LMS Role (which controls the visibility of left navigation menu items) and their LMS Position (which controls the scope of user visibility within the organization, including those shown on the Homepage “Employees” tab or the Navigation - My Team page.)

  • Certification tab or icon: Detailed display of the user's Certification status; click on courses to open details and enroll
  • Curriculum tab or Skill Profile icon: Detailed display of the user's Curriculum and status; includes ability to add or remove goals
Manager  In addition to all Student views listed above, supervisors can have access to...
  • Manage Goals > View Goals: View Department Goals; view Certification Goals and assign to others
  • Manage Goals > Goals > Assign Goals: Use the +Goals wizard to create ad-hoc goal assignments
  • My Team icon: Offers easy access to the manager's Employee list, Goals, Certifications, and Skills.
  • Employees tab > Department Certification: Displays Department Certification status; drill down to view individual Employee status
  • Employees tab > Department Curriculum: View Department Certification status; drill down to view Employee progress status; add or remove individual user Goals
  • Reports: Access to Manager-level certification and course goal reports with results scoped to their employees
